01 Types of solder wires

Solder wire, as a core material in the electronic manufacturing industry, plays an indispensable role. Its main function is to provide necessary materials for welding points during the welding process to ensure good electrical and mechanical connections. However, not all solder wires are the same.

 1. Pure tin welding wire is made of 99.99% tin and does not contain any other alloy components. It has a low melting point and is suitable for low-temperature welding. However, due to its relatively soft nature, it may not be suitable for certain applications with high mechanical stress.

2. Lead tin alloy welding wire

This is the most traditional welding wire, with a common alloy ratio of Sn60Pb40 and Sn63Pb37. Lead increases the flexibility of welding wire and lowers its melting point. However, due to the toxicity of lead, this type of welding wire is gradually being phased out in many places.

3. Silver tin welding wire

Adding silver can improve the conductivity and mechanical strength of solder joints. The common alloy ratio is Sn96.5Ag3.5. Suitable for high-frequency and high-temperature applications.

4. Lead free welding wire

To address environmental and health issues, lead-free welding wires such as SAC (tin silver copper) alloy welding wires have emerged. The common alloy ratio for SAC welding wire is Sn96.5Ag3Cu0.5.

02 Specification of solder wire

Diameter of solder wire

The diameter range of solder wire is wide, ranging from 0.2mm to 5.0mm. Thin solder wires are suitable for fine automatic soldering and SMT components, while thick solder wires are suitable for large solder joints and cables.

Flux core

Solder wires can be flux free or contain solder cores. The function of solder core is to remove oxides and improve the quality of solder joints during the welding process. Common types of solder flux include acidic solder flux, rose solder flux, and non cleaning solder flux.

Packaging of solder wire

Solder wires can be packaged by weight or length. Common packaging methods include coiling, wire rods, and small rolls.
